Speech Therapy is an intervention service to treat people with speech, language, and swallowing disorders practised by regulated professionals who hold master's degree in speech language pathology from recognized universities "Speech-Language Pathologist". Services of speech therapy include, but not limited to: client/family interview, clinical observation, client-family interaction, direct interaction using formal and informal measures, implementing a therapy plan in collaboration with the client/caregivers to meet their goals/needs, one to one or group treatment sessions, consultation and education.
Speech disorder is a condition when a child or an adult has a problem in producing speech sounds clearly and accurately. Additionally, a speech disorder could be in the form of a problem in speaking fluently. A child or an adult may have hesitations, blocking, or repeating some syllables or sounds in their speech. In addition to the above, a speech disorder could be a voice problem in which the child or the adult has a problem in their voice quality or in other voice parameters (tone, pitch, and loudness). All speech disorders may range from mild to severe depending on the impact of speech clarity. There are several causes of speech disorders. It could be functional or structural. Speech therapist can assess and give a proper treatment plan for your speech disorder.
